From Valkeakoski to Tampere, 33 kilometers in the beautiful autumn forest:
46th Pirkka Jogging on Sunday October 4th 2015
Pirkka Jogging is held yearly on the first Sunday in October and is suitable for runners, joggers and walkers alike. The route mainly follows forest paths and sand roads from Valkeakoski to Tampere, partly along the routes of Birgitta Trail. The diverse terrain offers additional challenge to marathoners, whereas the beautiful scenery will be sure to please those who like to take it more slowly. In recent years there has been nearly 2000 participants.

The age category will be defined by his or her age on the 31st of December in the year of the event. Children under age of 15 can participate only under an adults supervision.

Entries (from Finland) should be made on our websites, under the "Ilmoittautuminen"-title. With the registration you’ll be given a reference number (five numbers). With this reference number you can pay the entry fee in Finland. Entry fees should be paid at the same time with registration. For those who have paid the entry fees beforehand (until 20th September) we´ll send start numbers by mail to home address (in Finland). Registration via internet ends 29.9.

Foreigners can also register by email toimisto(at)pirkankierros.fi. For them, it’s possible to make the payment beforehand or at the starting place. In every case, we observe the date when your registration has arrived, although the actual payment can happen also at the starting place. Transportation from Tampere to Valkeakoski
The busses from Tampere leave both Tampere Keskustori (Central Market place, in front of The Old Church) and finish place TAKK. The bus fee is 5 EUR. From Keskustori busses leave between 7.15-7.30 AM. From the finish place the last bus starts at 7.45 AM. After a race there is no transportation back to Valkeakoski.
Start and finish
The race starts in Valkeakoski Tehtaan kenttä (football field, address Tehtaankatu 6, Valkeakoski). The info desk (late entries and paid race numbers) in Valkeakoski is opened from 7.30 AM to 9 AM. It is possible to buy warm and cold drinks and snacks before the start. The starting time for everyone is 9 AM, earlier start is forbidden. You´ll find different starting groups to choose according to your estimated time. Walkers start last. For the time tracking and registration we use RFID-chips within race numbers. The RFID activates only at the start line. In Pirkka Jogging we have only the gross time, so the clock starts ticking for everyone when the starting shot is fired and stops when you cross the finish line.
The race finishes in Tampereen Aikuiskoulutuskeskus TAKK (address Kurssikeskuksenkatu 11, Tampere). In the courtyard viewers and participants can buy warm meals and refreshments. The finish will be closed at 4 PM, so you have plenty of time (7 hours) to complete the race. Make sure that your race number (and RFID) is visible at the finish. Participants can use few showers and dressing rooms inside the TAKK building, but remember; a free transportation and entry to the Kaleva Swimming Hall includes to the entry fee.
The route and service points
The route is marked with blue ribbon, arrow signs and kilometer placards. Six service points and their distances from the start you can find out from route profile (REITTIPROFIILI). Every service points serve water and sport drink, but you´ll find also blueberry soup, pickles and even oat gruel along the route. First Aid is located also in every service point and at the finish.
Participant who cannot continue and has to withdraw from the race is transported from the service point to the finish area. With Taivalpirtti service point has a time limit of 4,5 hours; a participant who doesn’t reach Taivalpirtti before 1.30 PM must discontinue.
The winners of competition categories will be rewarded with trophy cups. Ten best in the overall competition and 3-5 in age categories will also be rewarded with engraved medals and other prizes. All participants get the medal. There is also lots of lottery prizes.
Cancelling the participation
In cases of injury or illness, the entry fees can be paid back (minus EUR 8,50 administrative expenses). Participant must deliver a medical certificate to the organisers. The participation right can also be postponed for the next year´s event. The certificate has to be sent before Oktober 22nd to our office. The participants don’t have to inform the organization about possible cancellations before the race.
