”Experience an adventure on the skis!”

The 62nd Pirkka Ski race will be arranged on Sunday the 5th of March 2017 (classic/free).

The race is 90 km long, one of the longest one day ski races in Finland.  It is also possible to participate 52 km Tour-Pirkka (Retki-Pirkka) or 45 km Semi-Pirkka (Puoli-Pirkka). From the year 2015 we have offered also possibility to beat the 90 km challenge with a team. In Neliveto-Relay the 90 km course can be divited freely between 2-4 members. Teams can choose either classic or free technique and start will be among other series. A week after official Pirkka, on Saturday 11th of March will be arranged Pirkka Backpack Ski (Reppu-Pirkka).

Entries should be made on our websites, under the "Ilmoittautuminen"-title. With the registration you’ll be given a reference number. With this reference number you can pay the entry fee in Finland. Entry fees should be payed at the same time with registration. For those who have payed the entry fees beforehand (until 17th February) we send start numbers by mail to home address (in Finland). Registration via internet ends on 27.2.

In every case, we observe the date when your registration has arrived, although the actual payment can happen also at the starting place. Race office at Teivo Horse race trotting will be opened on Saturday 4th of March from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. On actual event day, Sunday 5th of March, it is possible to registrate to the race only at the starting places. In Niinisalo (90 and 52 km) race office will be opened at 6 a.m. and in Hämeenkyrö (45 km) at 8.30 a.m. You can pick up your race number from the Teivo on Saturday or from the race office at your starting place on Sunday.

Pirkka 90 km, classic/ free
The start will be at 7 a.m. from Niinisalo Garrison area, classic technique at 7 a.m. and free technique at 11 a.m. Start groups are marked with stickers on the skis. There is about 700 m walking along the road after Kyröskoski service point (KÄVELYOSUUS in track profil below) ). There are 11 service points along the route. The finish is located at Teivo Horse race trotting area and it will be closed at 8 p.m. Pirkka Ski Race 90 km is meant for those who are 18 years or older and are in satisfactory physical condition. The series for Pirkka are: Men, Men over 40, 50 and 60 years, Women and Women over 45 years. W45 is only with the classic technique, other series both classic and free.

Retki-Pirkka 52 km classic / free (Tour-Pirkka)
This track is an easiest part of 90 km track. It will be arranged on Sunday in both techniques. Also young people (12-18 years) are allowed to take part in this race. The start will be at 7 a.m. (classic) and at 11 a.m. (free technique) from Niinisalo. The finish is in the Kyröskoski service point and will be closed at 6 p.m. There is only two series for all skiers (classic or free).

Puoli-Pirkka 45 km classic / free (Semi-Pirkka)
This shortest track is hardest part of 90 km track. It will be arranged on Sunday in both techniques. Also young people are allowed to take part in this race (12-18 years old). The start will be at 10 a.m. (classic) and at 2 p.m. (free technique) from Hämeenkyrö service point (at the half way statue). The finish is located at Teivo Horse race trotting area and will be closed at 8 p.m. There are series for women, men, boys and girls (12-18 years).

Reppu-Pirkka 90 km, classic / free on Saturday 12th March (Backpack Pirkka)
No timing, no race categories. With only 300 participants we can assure, that if you wish, you can get your own private experience in the nature. Start at the Niinisalo Garrison Area will be from 6 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. Finish at the Lamminpää Ulkoilumaja (Skiing Cottage near by Teivo) will be closed at 8 p.m. There is only one service point, so you must carry your own snacks with you. There are some cafeterias along the route. Free transportation from Tampere (Keskustori at 4.45 a.m. and Teivo a7 5 a.m.) includes to the entry fee. Your belongings will be transport to the finish. You can registrate to the Reppu-Pirkka beforehand and at the starting place Niinisalo. Race Office opens at 6 a.m.

Pirkka Ski Race is Euroloppet Partner Race. From the season 2015 it is possible to take part Finnish Main Race Vuokatti Ski Race and other two Partner Race - events and here by become Finland Euroloppet Racer. More details of Euroloppet and Suomi Euroloppet Racer finds here.


If the event must be cancelled because of force majeure or some especially difficult circumstances, the organisers reserve the right to keep a percentage of the entry fees to cover the already existing costs and the expenses caused by returning the fees. From 1955 to this day, Pirkka Ski Race has been cancelled only once! In 2014 there was hardly any snow on the course and historical cancellation was inevitable.

A participant, who cancels his entry because of the illness, is entitled to a partly refund. Medical sertificate must be sent to our office before 15th March.


Only the classic technique is permitted starting at 7 a.m. A skier is not entitled to demand another skier to give way. The changing of skis during the race is not allowed (concerns the competition skiers). When crossing roads skiers must absolutely follow the traffic instructions of the road officials. Pirkka skiers participate at their own risk. The participant number is personal and cannot be used by another skier. If a participant wishes to transfer his number to another skier, it must be announced to our office before 3rd March. The organisers have the right to use any of all photographs taken in connection with Pirkka Ski Race for whatever purposes decided.
There are two closing times for service points in Kyröskoski (4 p.m.) and Pentinmaa (6 p.m.)


The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any skier and remove him from the track if he fails to observe Pirkka Ski Race regulations or the organiser's special instructions.


Transportation is arranged in the morning of the skiing event to Niinisalo and to Hämeenkyrö. Those who wish to stay over night in Niinisalo, can use our transportation also at Saturday evening (read more  under Accommodation in Niinisalo).

  • Transportation of the personal belongings from the start to the finish. Follow the signs "REPUT" or "VARUSTEET" where you can leave your bag. Marked also; in Niinisalo there are own places for bags to Kyröskoski (Tour Pirkkas finish) and Teivo (Pirkka 90km finish)
  • Transportation of discontinued skiers from service points to finish
  • Transportation to the swimming hall from the finish (Teivo) after the race.


Accommodation information will be updated as soon as possible.


There are several hotels, motels etc. in Tampere and in Kankaanpää (about 5 km from Niinisalo). Skiers should make their reservations themselves. Lomahotelli Jämi is located about 20 km from the start. They have marvellous training possibilities for the skiers. Pirkka Ski Race track goes through this holiday resort area. They offer accommodation in a room for 3 - 5 person, including breakfast and sauna. The transportation should be asked from local taxi service.
